Little Cooks
- allowing your children to participate in kitchen chores will turn them into healthier eaters!

If you want your children to eat everything you serve them, start by turning them into your kitchen assistants. Their role will teach them about the nutritional value of different kinds of foods as well as how to prepare, cook and even store them.

Before you start, make sure your kitchen is a safe place for children. Next, have them help you create a shopping list of the ingredients you will need. Make sure they wash their hands before you begin cooking, and take time to familiarize them with the cooking utensils and kitchen appliances you will be using.

Kitchen assignments can split up according to age groups. For example, the youngest children ages 3 to 5 can wash vegetables. Kids ages 6 to 9 can measure ingredients and older kids ages 10-to 14 can help cut, cook and bake the food.

    Important Notes:
  • Children should never be allowed to be in the kitchen without adult supervision.
  • Don’t make children cut fruits or vegetables if they haven’t mastered using a knife.
  • Teach your children to use oven mitts when removing hot items from the oven or stove.
  • Make sure pot handles point to the back of the stove to avoid possible accidents.
