The Food Program will use materials developed by Team Nutrition Iowa to integrate nutrition principles with music, books and physical activities. A cornerstone of the program will be to get children in day care involved in food preparation. A unique part of the program will be the Food Lady, a friendly visitor who arrives to implement the principles and activities of the program. She will be a colorfully dressed, child-friendly character who brings fun nutrition activities and messages.

An orientation will be held in April to give further details of the record keeping the State expects for this project. Shortly thereafter the project will begin in earnest. It is expected that only 3 sites will be piloted at first. However, as the project unfolds we hope to extend its benefits to all the providers.
