"I love you, you love me…" These words from Barney’s song may be your child’s favorites. The words convey a message of love and acceptance that help your child feel secure and special. You can help your young child develop confidence and a positive self-concept by providing opportunities that encourage discovery of self. Self Portrait Have your child look in the mirror. Talk about your child’s hair color, eye color, freckles, dimples, eyebrows — all of the features that make him/her special. Encourage your child to draw a self-portrait. As your child talks about the picture, write down what he/she says and read it back as a story.
