Summer Latchkey Program

Free Dental Checks!
May 25th—July 28th For Children of All Ages
Free dental appointments will be set up at the Del Norte Community Health Center if dental work needs to be done. Patients who do not have insurance can sign up for Healthy Families and Medi-cal.
No Appointment Necessary! Services will be provided on the Family Resource Center Motor Outreach Vehicle at the following locations from 10am-4pm:
Every Tuesday: Del Norte Community Health Center
Every 2nd & 4th Wednesday: Smith River School
Every 1st & 3rd Wednesday: Klamath - Margaret Keating

Hansell Center - Year Round Care
The Hansell Child Development Center provides all day child care Monday through Friday with a morning preschool component for children 2.9 to 5 years old. The activities emphasize children’s self esteem, personal awareness, communication skill, and physical development. Phone: 464-4174 (License #085403151)

Hansell Center Car Wash Success!
The staff at DNCCC put on a car wash for the benefit of Hansell Child Development Center. They were able to earn $300.00 to help out the center!! Great Job!! Thank you to Wal-Mart for their matching fund grant! WOW!

Hi. My name is Arturo Gomez. I have been hired as a part-time interpreter at the Del Norte Child Care Council. I moved here from Sacramento because I wanted to get out of the smoke, the traffic, and the heat. The first time I visited here, I was really pleased because I had easy access to fishing, camping and could ride my bicycle. I am here Monday through Friday from 1:00pm to 5:00 pm to help answer any question that you may have. I hope to hear from you."

Thanks to Food Program Providers!
The State Review is over for another 3 years! And we did great! Special thanks go to the providers who welcomed our reviewer, Kris Sullivan, into their homes. And thanks to all of you who were ready to do so if needed.

There are some small areas we need to pay more attention to. One has to do with recording meals. The other concerns the need to make evening and weekend monitoring visits for those with extended hours. There was an explanatory insert in with your June Food Program checks.

Thanks you all for your hard work and dedication. It’s at the heart of our program’s success.

Food Lady Grant Update
Activities for the Food Lady Project began in June! The grant calls for a Best Practice project designed to take place over the remainder of this year. There will be several pilot sites. The Best Practice for our project is ‘Providing Pleasant Mealtime Experiences’. In order to enhance the children’s enjoyment of stories, recipes they will help prepare and physical activities all of these components will be facilitated by the Food Lady (Rosalie Leaberry) who will arrive in colorful dress with bright food motifs.

Periodic evaluations of the project will be done and both interim and final reports will be submitted to the State. Fifteen grants were awarded throughout the State through the California Department of Education. Their intent is to assemble a Best Practices kit so that the 15 grant projects can be replicated throughout the State.

Parenting Classes
Learn how to make life less stressful by attending Love & Logic Parenting classes. New classes start monthly. Call Sandy at X 121 to enroll.

You'll learn:
• Alternatives to threats and lectures.
• To turn your words into gold with enforceable statements.
• To put an end to arguing and manipulation.
• What to do when you can't think of a logical consequence.
• How tough kids react when we start to get close.
• To take time to do discipline on your terms.

DNCCC Cook Books are Now Available!
"Homemade With Love"
The cookbook contains 181 recipes in 8 categories from Appetizers to Desserts. Staff, board, providers, and supporters of DNCCC contributed the recipes. This is a new venture for DNCCC and we hope it will provide some much needed funds.
Great idea for Christmas or Birthday gifts. Available at DNCCC Office. Cost is $10.00 while supplies last.
