Join the Food Program
Are you a Licensed or Trustline day care provider who could benefit from the CACFP Food Program? Benefits include help with menu planning, trainings, interactive visits with the children and educational materials. But best of all reimbursement is available for the food you feed the children. There is potential to be reimbursed approximately $100 a month for serving 2 children a snack and lunch Monday through Friday. Voluntary participation. No obligation introductory visit. Call Rosalie at 464-8311 ext 24 for more information.
Hunger Center Nomination
State Representative Mike Thompson recently submitted a letter to the Congressional Center to nominate the DNCCC Food Program for a $1000 award. The award is presented for changing lives and improving nutrition for children and adults.
In his letter Rep. Thompson pointed out the poverty and childhood obesity problems so prevalent in our county. Statistically in Northern California nearly 30 percent of low-income 2-4 year olds are considered overweight or at risk.
He described the innovative Food Lady created for the Best Practices grant to Make Mealtimes Pleasant. This model will continue under the name Fun-tastic Foods. The Food Coordinator will continue to integrate activities into home visits – books, teaching tools, physical activities, helping children ‘cook’ and hygiene reviews. Future plans could include a puppet theater, children’s garden and a children’s kitchen pending future grant funds.
Many thanks to Rep. Thompson and his district representative Elizabeth Murguia for supporting our nomination and recognizing the importance of the things our providers accomplish.

Quilt Project
Many of you may remember the beautiful quilt donated to DNCCC by Shari Ortega last year. We are currently planning another quilt with the help of the wonderful members of the Lighthouse Quilt Guild. We have a preliminary design for the quilt and hope to have it ready to hang at venues in town by August or September. Special thanks go to Carmen Brooks for beginning a dialogue with the Guild to gain their assistance. Many thanks to this group of wonderful women who are willing to find time in their busy lives to help us with this fundraiser. Stay tuned as the project unfolds for updates and information on where you can see the quilt and purchase raffle tickets to support our agency programs.
