Here are some points that are worth keeping in mind when treating a child with head lice:- Follow package directions carefully when treating with medications.
- Don't use medications on children under 2 years of age or on pregnant or nursing women.
- Avoid using extra amounts of medications.
- Head lice medications should not be mixed.
- Don't use household sprays on head lice.
- Head lice cannot be prevented by treating people who are not infested.
- When someone in the family has head lice, check all family members for lice and nits every 2-3 days and treat only if crawling lice or nits are found on hair shafts within ½ inch of the scalp.
- Check all treated people for 2-3 weeks after you think that all lice and nits are gone.
