Head Lice Tips
Here are some points that are worth keeping in mind when treating a child with head lice:
  • Follow package directions carefully when treating with medications.
  • Don't use medications on children under 2 years of age or on pregnant or nursing women.
  • Avoid using extra amounts of medications.
  • Head lice medications should not be mixed.
  • Don't use household sprays on head lice.
  • Head lice cannot be prevented by treating people who are not infested.
  • When someone in the family has head lice, check all family members for lice and nits every 2-3 days and treat only if crawling lice or nits are found on hair shafts within ½ inch of the scalp.
  • Check all treated people for 2-3 weeks after you think that all lice and nits are gone.
