DNCCC Book Corner

Here is a taste of two of the wonderful books we have in our Del Norte Child Care Council Library:

Everything for Winter edited by Kathy Charner comes in very handy with our climate. It focuses on indoor activities designed for bad weather days. This book has 256 pages of activities in categories such as finger play, songs, art activities, learning centers, circle time activities and dramatic play. There is an activity using household ingredients to make crystals that grow. There is a coat hanger critter to make. There an activity using Mushy, Slushy, Melty Snow made in a blender. Color Magic helps children learn to identify colors. There are counting activities, sorting activities. You can make peanut butter, create a Feely Box and make Paste Batik. This book is for both younger and older children.

Another great book is Making Make Believe by MaryAnn F. Kohl, a book of ‘Props, Costumes and Creativity’. This book includes Imagination Spaces, Puppets and Sets, Cooking, Make-Believe and Costumes. You can create a Streamer Zone. There are directions for different kinds of puppets including a Tennis Ball Puppet or a Paper Plate Puppet. There are 10 Easy Hats or a Box Costume to make. There is a Painted Butterfly Snack or an Edible Goldfish Aquarium to make. There are Silly Antics or Moon Rocks. Let’s Play Corners include Let’s Play Artist, Window Washer, Scientist, Buried Treasure or Camp Out. The 125 ideas for simple, creative play all indicate the type of project, time needed to prepare and ease of use.
