From the Desk of the Director
Chris McCollum

Dear Providers, Parents and Colleagues,

These are the days when we look around us to see what we are thankful for and also what we wish for. As Executive Director I am very thankful for several things but most of all I am thankful for my staff. An ED is nothing without a solid capable staff. I am surrounded with a staff that has longevity, creativity, energy and a shared vision. From our centers to our administrative division – they are wonderful. I have the privilege of being empowered by them: I can go out into the community and make offers of collaboration and alignments that will be accomplished by fellow employees with a community spirit that is centered in the best interests of children.

Another thing I am grateful for is a Board who has volunteered their time, energy and expertise to guide me. The broad range of community knowledge and connectedness they bring are essential to our non-profit. They see the community’s needs in a similar light but from unique views. I appreciate their support and encouragement.

Through the course of the year, I am in contact with many individuals and agencies who endeavor to provide the best services and opportunities possible for Del Norte children. I salute them. Family Child Care Providers, Child Development Centers, State Preschools, Headstarts, Faith-based Centers, Tribal Centers, First 5 Del Norte, Board of Supervisors Goal Committee, Local Planning Council, Del NorteUnified School District & Healthy Starts…..the list is too long. We were very fortunate to have the support of the Elk Valley Rancheria and TriCounties Bank as well as the local business community for our annual Chills For Children.

What I wish for is that we continue our good work. That we keep up our efforts of collaboration. That we always believe in the potential of our community to clothe, feed, educate and care for our children. That we will be especially aware of the children associated with the methamphetamine problem – they need an educated, motivated, and empowered community to help them survive and flourish.

And for my staff – I wish them good health, prosperity and continued success in their work. They are wonderful, dedicated people.

To our Providers and Parents: Best Wishes for a Happy Holiday Season. Stay safe & warm.
