| Tax Tip - Disabled Access Credit |
| If you make your home more accessible to children with disabilities, you may be able to claim a disabled access credit or deduction on your tax return. IRS Form 8826 Disabled Access Credit allows you to take a 50% credit for expenses over $250 up to $10,250, for a maximum credit of $5,000. Expenses that qualify include Braille books, grab bars, remodeling a bathroom, widening a doorway, etc. You can also claim a tax deduction for qualifying expenses such as removing architectural and transportation barriers (such as building a ramp, remodeling a home, or converting a van). For more information see the Family Child Care 2005 Tax Workbook and Organizer ($14.95/$11.96 for RNI Members, http://www.redleafpress.org/ or 1-800-423-8309). |
